CiCi our little porkchop… is HOME!!!

It was a dark and stormy night… well maybe it was, we can’t be sure. But we can be sure CiCi was abandoned in front of a church in Brooklyn. She was pregnant and alone =( If I have to keep positive, I will say that it was a blessing this happened because she was saved. Saved by us at Bobbi and the Strays. Her 2 puppies were also saved and are living in wonderful, forever homes. All because of fate in my opinion.

CiCi gave birth to 2 puppies. She nurtured them as any good mom would do until the day they went home. She was sad, but we assured her they were happy and it was her turn next. We promised CiCi she never again would know how it felt to be abandoned and alone. We told her she would never see the inside of a cement cage again. We promised! We meant every word, but for one reason or another, poor CiCi was constantly overlooked. Maybe it was because she was part pit – maybe it was because she was chubby – maybe it was for no reason at all.

CiCi had a lot of fans at the rescue. Liz would walk her and take photos and videos of her. Tabitha would do the same, along with lots of others. The second you walked into the room where CiCi’s cage was, she was hopeful to get a walk or a pet. You reached your hand in and in a split second you were covered in kisses =) The girl is a gem and we just needed someone to notice…

In one day her life (and our’s changed!). I received an email from a family who had just lost their senior dog. Although they were in pain from the loss, their home and hearts were empty. They were interested in a few of the dogs they saw on our website, but I immediately suggested CiCi. They wanted a lover and if anyone was a lover, it was CiCi. Plus she has been with us too long and I knew she had to be the next kid to go home.

Well, needless to say, the family was excited to meet her. They came the very next day and as I suspected, it was love at first lick! They decided to foster with the intent to adopt, but after one night, they changed that… they emailed me and said – “get the papers ready… CiCi is already a part of our family!!” They thanked me profusely for finding them their new “kid”. I thanked *them* for seeing CiCi for the wonderful, loving, beautiful soul she is.

cici

I was speechless and filled with glee! It may sound funny to some, but to those who know the joy of watching them go home, you know what I mean. It’s a gift – a gift I hope to receive every day.

Have fun CiCi – we will miss your smiling face, but are overjoyed you are finally home. Play in the yard, bury your bones, kiss your mom, dad and sister and keep smiling because this time you really have something to look forward to. When you wake in the morning from your new comfy bed, you will see someone waiting to give you breakfast, a walk and a big hug. No more cement for you little girl.

Hope to see you at the family bbq this summer!!

With love,
Aunt Sandy =)

When the clouds go away, you can guarantee I will be the first one on this street to get out there and do some barbecuing.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting some of the saff & wonderful volunteers at a BBQ held for CiCi.
I know her parents well and CiCi could not be loved more…She came to them at a very sad time in their lives; after the loss of their beloved dog, Lucky
They were heartbroken and CiCi brought happiness back into their lives. CiCi is the most loveable and happy dog (tail always wagging) that I have been with in a long time and I believe that her wonderful nature is due to all the love and attention that she recieved during her long stay with Bobbi & the Strays. Hats off to you guys!
I know CiCi was very happy to see you all again-she didn’t forget you.

Hi Ci Ci’s new mom: I am so happy CICI was adopted by such a loving family. I was the person who found CICI across the street from St. Cecilias church. My mom lives there. I was looking at the window and saw her. It was about 2 weeks before Christmas. I ran out the house and she immediately came over to me. We took her home and called Bobbi and the Strays the next day. My husband took to them and they immediately took wonderful care of her. We went to see her puppies (how cute) and we walk and played around with CICI. She is such a mush mush, and sweet dog. Im so thankful that she was finally adopted. God Bless CICI and your family.

    Hi everyone,

I am Cici’s new happy mom. We are overjoyed with our new addition. She is the most precious doggie. She kisses and wags her tail all day long. I read the post about Cici being part pit and alot of the time are not adopted because of the reputation of that breed. Well let me tell everyone this “kid” could not be more loving. She makes us smile and laugh everyday. Everyone keeps saying it was a wonderful thing you did by adopting a shelter dog, but the truth is the happiness she gives us cannot be measured. Thank you Bobbi and the Strays for caring for her until she was able to come home.

Thanks for all the well-wishes everyone! With a little patience and perseverance, they all will go home one day =) Keep up the good thoughts!

As a vegetarian it makes me feel a little queasy thinking about a dog as a “porkchop”. I would certainly assume she will not be so unfortunate as to end up on someone’s plate! I understand the general sentiment, though. She clearly is a bouncing bundle of joy.

I never got to meet CiCi, but knew about her from the Web site. I’m so glad that some prospective adopters are open to suggestions from shelter staff. So many prospective adopters enter the process with a particular breed or “look” or even a color bias. It really warms my heart that someone decides to look for a dog or cat to add to his or her family based on *personality*. I’m so glad they gave a pit bull terrier mix a chance. A lot of people don’t.

I can’t wait to see some pictures of her when she’s all settled in.
