I am going back way before there was Bobbi and the Strays…
Bobbi and I were VERY close friends and our families were together all the time. Well, one day Bobbi called me and asked me if we would do her a big favor. She had heard of someone that had to move from their apartment and could not take their 2 dogs with them and they were putting them in the pound.
You know that Bobbi could not let this happen and immediately she went to get the dogs. Well, for some reason only the male dog was there and Bobbi took the dog with her. She had so many dogs at her home at the time she could not bring another one home so she called me to see if we would watch the dog just for the weekend. I clearly remember how the conversation went…
“Please just watch the dog for the weekend” Bobbi asked.
“I don’t know if we can, what type of dog is it?” I asked.
“It is a little poodle”, Bobbi answered.
“Are you kidding me, my husband will NEVER watch a poodle… he only likes Big dogs” was my immediate answer.
I then told her if she was going to get anywhere with this she better ask my husband herself since I knew that he would do anything for her. Well, needless to say he did agree to watch the poodle for the weekend and Bobbi soon brought over Whitey. He was a 2 year old miniature white poodle who came in our house like he had been there forever. The kids and admittedly my husband had a great time playing with Whitey all that weekend.
When Monday came Bobbi still had not found a home for him, so he stayed just a little longer. Patrick, my husband starting growing in love with Whitey and for the next 16 years Whitey was a part of our family.
Whitey forever changed my husband’s mind about little dogs and he was one of his favorite dogs ever. When Whitey passed away it was one of the saddest days for our family. He has a spot in our yard with a little plaque and is forever in our hearts.
